I have a 10 y/o DD who is just like this. She wised up to the whole “Go lay down and see how long you can keep your eyes open” game. So now I have to use the “If you don’t go to bed when you are told to and stop making excuses for what is wrong with you, then you lose (priviledge inserted here) tomorrow, and you get to go to bed 30 minutes earlier tomorrow night as well!”
God never shuts a door without opening a window!

We always used to tell our boys NOT to do things we wanted them to do. In fact, it was about the only way to get my (now) 7-year-old to do anything we asked. We would tell him “Don’t you dare get a bath.” He would gleefully run up to get a bath like he was “pulling one over” on us. Or I would sit and cut his brother’s nails and say “Oh no, we are not cutting _’s nails. This is just something fun we do with _ (older brother’s name).” It would just burn up the little one and he’d be begging to get his nails cut. Doesn’t work so much anymore. And it has never worked on DD (2 1/2).
Oh my goodness my MIL is the QUEEN of reverse psychology. She had 3 kids and obviously raised them all using this. My dd is almost 3 and the way she cons her (that’s what dh and I call it, LOL) is unreal. She does things I would never think of doing, and they work so well! Dh and I are still learning, so we haven’t mastered all the tricks, LOL.

Last night my 4 y/o ds would not go to sleep…so my so says to him, “Why don’t you go lay down and see how long you can keep your eyes open.” It worked!! I had never thought of that. Every night he has a million and one excuses about how he can’t go to sleep…I am thirsty, my tummy hurts, etc…
Does anyone else do anything similar to this?
Smiles!!
