Pregnancy and Mammograms?

I don’t know the answer to your question, but I had an breast ultrasound when I was pg.

Obviously I missed your other post (which I went hunting for as soon as I saw this one!).

You aren’t supposed to have a mammogram while pregnant. Maybe they could do an ultrasound of your breast instead?

I’ve already had an ultrasound and everything seemed fine. I’m thinking that it could wait until after I give birth. But then I don’t know if I want to get zapped while nursing either. Thanks for your input.

I used to work in a mammography office, when prego we very very rarely did mammos, unless there was a very serious issue that needed attention. I’d ask your doc but usually they will err on the side of caution and just do an ultrasound for now.

Do that have some sort of contraption to catch all the milk spewing forth? The visual in my head of a mammogram of a full breast made me crack up!

I’ve done a mammogram while still bf, and it was quite the messy adventure. No special contraption, just the tech and lots of cloths to wipe up all that was spewing forth! She actually slipped in the big puddle at the end and I felt kinda bad. I was a little worried that their machine wasn’t going to make it and that I’d be billed for that too!

If you do opt for a mam while bf, may I recommend that you bring your baby (with another adult to hold them) or a pump to make sure your breasts are really good and empty at the last minute. I nursed before I left, but by the time I got called back, my breasts were super full.

Agree that an ultrasound is best. I just had several for a breast infection postpartum, and if I understand correctly, it is more accurate than a mammogram.
