Well, I am not a movie buff at all, so I don’t really have an educated opinion.
Gone With the Wind, obviously. I suppose Titanic just with the shear volume of affects, though I think Cameron should have put less love story and more historical scenes in the movie.
And I love Goodfellas.
Schindler’s List. It moves me every time I watch it. It’s breathtaking.

Both are stunning, beautiful and always come to mind when I think of great art.

I would say “The Deer Hunter”, it’s long, but good.

There are so many but I’d have to say Gone With The Wind. The costumes, the actors, the directing, and the story are all just so great.
Great choices all! Getz I so have to agree with Goodfellas. And AKfirefly, I have to see Dreams again. I watched most of it so many years ago, and don’t remember much. Crap. I’ve been a bad movie person and have only seen 1 Kurasawa film from beginning to end. But Netflix is my new best friend, so I must catch up!

only one kurasawa in entirety???
gack. I dunno if I can call you my movie-buff friend anymore. j/k
which movie have you seen?
and on topic again… I’m gonna have to list “Lord of The Rings” (all three movies) by Peter Jackson as a masterpiece. The writing, production, cinematography… all brilliant.

I agree with 2 listed here Schindler’s List and Titanic. I was amazed at how Cameron was able to interwtine the fact and fictional elements into Titanic and make it such a compelling story. Schindler’s List was just an amazing story that was well told by Speilberg -and the little girl in the red coat. . .

A Masterpiece!
Name one movie that you consider to be a masterpiece.
I’ll start. I think Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now is a masterpiece. I was mesmerized when I first saw that film, and am still in awe of it. I have others but I’ll leave it at that for now.
Thanks, I look forward to reading the responses. :)
