I’m sure this topic has been covered a million times, but I’m new on IndyMoms, and I’m looking for some help!

I’m writing a Top 10 list for a newsletter I produce, and my next topic is Top 10 Free Things to do in Indy. I’ve got most of the “usuals” (walk the canal, etc), but I’m wondering if any of you know of some fun, hidden treasures in Indy.

Anyone have ideas? OOOh, like I just rememberd the Children’s museum has free days… That kind of thing.

Thanks in advance!!!

Children’s museum is free every first Thursday of the month from 6-8pm (I think).

I’ll be watching this post!

IMA is free to everyone.

Indianapolis Art Center has a neat outdoor area and backs up to the Monon Trail.

Broadway Park (61st and Broadway) has fountains/water stuff in the summer.

Concerts downtown on the canal during the summer. The Indiana State Museum does Thursday nights, I think.

Holliday Park walk down to the river. Nature Center is fun too, for the little kids.

I think some of the bowling alley’s have a summer deal that is either free or cheap.

Check out Indy’s CHild, online. The now have a weekly newsletter with free and cheap activities.

Ecolab at Marian College

by luvmy5kids on May 12, 2008 at 7:20 PM

We took our kids to the Ecolab last Monday night. They had a lot of fun walking the trails and checking out the wildlife. There are beavers and beaver lodges and dams. My kids and I are still kinda new to all this outdoorsy type stuff since moving from Vegas, so they really enjoyed seeing the ducks and turtles and frogs! It was beautiful!

Free movies (at least last summer) that were on wed mornings at movie theaters. The movies had already been out. So this summer it would be movies that were kid friendly over the last year. This was Greenwood/Franklin area

This isn’t pertinent for the summer, but Cool Creek Park in Westfield holds Pajama Rama on the first Friday of each month during the school year. It is free, all you need to do is call ahead to register. They have cookies and milk or juice and you bring a blanket to the nature center (indoor) and a local music teacher comes with her guitar and sings songs with the kids for 30 minutes (7-7:30). Afterwards, you can make a craft and look at the reptiles in the nature center. It’s probably for the 8 and under set. My kids enjoy it and they have fun wearing their pajamas there.
