Congratulations!
It’s it kind of screwed up though that you had to basically have his permission to get your name back? I’ve seriously thought of changing my name back and I’m married.

Yeah, pretty much. He didn’t care enough to make our marriage work, why would he care now?
But, knowing the kind of guy he is, I was expecting an objection, just so I’d have to keep his name. I’m glad he didn’t.
I was kind of bothered though, at the bottom of the letter, it has who and where copies were sent to. I know his was sent to his Mom’s address, but now my address is on the bottom of his letter, and frankly, he doesn’t need that info.

They wouldn’t change mine though because my ex was deceased and couldn’t agree with it.
That’s nuts! If he’s deceased, how can he disagree? LOL!
What an antiquated rule. Good for you, schnauzermom04!

For those of you who don’t know, I met a great guy in Feb 03. We moved on together in Sept 03, and got engaged Oct 04. We were married in April 05. Well, in Oct 05, he told me that he had been seeing someone since Aug 03, right after we got together, and he was leaving me. The girl he left me for was also married, and has 3 kids, none of which were her husband’s. We were divorced May 06.
Anyway, I didn’t know that I was supposed to ask for my maiden name back in the divorce. Well after being told that it would be $500 for a new court case, I left it alone for awhile. About a month ago, I decided to write a letter to the court, and petition for my name. I got a letter that said that if my ex didn’t object in 15 days, it would be granted. Well, today in the mail, the petition was granted! I have gone by my maiden name since the divorce, but my driver’s license was on my married name. So, tonight I am going to the BMV and I’m having it changed!
I am so glad that this whole mess is over, and I can finally cut all ties to him. I am sitting here crying!
Thank you for sharing my good news!
